Dental Insurance changes that make us better for business

12 June 2024

Accessibility of dental care remains an issue for employees, and businesses are facing ongoing challenges like attracting and retaining the best talent. That’s why we are continuingly looking for ways to make your clients dental cover even better. That way, you can be sure it’s working as hard as it can for your clients and their people.

As a cashback product, Bupa Dental Insurance provides a contribution towards worldwide preventative and restorative treatment up to benefit allowances. It also provides cover for orthodontic treatment, dental injury, emergency and oral cancer so gives your clients and their employees an affordable option to fund dental treatment.

Over the last 12 months we’ve made some innovative product changes to Dental Plan and Dental Choice so customers can claim even more cashback towards preventative dental treatment and from September 2024 we are again increasing benefit allowances, meaning your clients and their employees can claim even more cashback for restorative treatment. We’re also introducing a new benefit on Dental Plan so customers can claim cashback towards a New Patient Examination.

How are we improving in 2024?

From 1st September 2024 we are:

For Dental Plan customers

  • Introducing a New Patient Examination benefit which is used when seeing a dentist for the first time. Each person on the policy can claim for one in each policy year, which is paid up to benefit allowances.
  • Increasing benefit allowance for Fillings (across all levels of cover). Fillings are the most common restorative treatment. Increasing this on all levels of cover means customers can claim more cashback towards a filling, giving them more contribution towards their treatment.
  • Moving extractions to major restorative benefit, again enables customers to claim more. The average claim for an extraction in 2023 was £320 (in London and SE) whereas current allowance ranges from £100 to £250 in each policy year. Moving this to major restorative benefit enables customers to claim more cashback towards this.
  • Increasing major restorative benefit allowances (on levels 1, 2 & 3). This will increase to £325, £500, and £800 (from £275, £450, and £700), enabling customers to claim more cashback towards their treatment.

For Dental Choice customers

  • Increasing benefit allowances for Fillings, Root Canal, and topical fluoride – again enabling customers to claim more. We’ve increased the benefit allowance for fillings from £60 to £165 for each tooth, depending on the level of cover. The benefit allowance for root canal will increase from £115 to £355 for each tooth, depending on level of cover.
  • Simplifying extractions benefit, by combining existing extraction benefits, using upper allowance, enabling customers to claim much more for a simple extraction. Benefit allowances range from £50 to £140 for each tooth, according to level of cover.

And for all our customers we are renaming the BDC support line to Bupa Oral Healthline, based on customer feedback. It makes it much clearer that it is an advice line for issues related to dental health and not a policy or product support line. Giving your teams fast phone advice on all things dental.
