Training and qualifications

Sharmila graduated with honours from Nair Hospital Dental college, Mumbai, India in 1986. She worked as SHO and registrar in Nair Hospital within the oral and maxillofacial surgery department, as well as within periodontics and orthodontics before opening her own practice which she ran for seven years.

Sharmila came to the UK in 1993 and gained her UK statutory exam qualification. She started working in a practice in Merthyr Tydfil and opened her own practice in Merthyr in 2003. Sharmila joined us at Smiles Better in 2020 after selling her own practice, and she is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.

Treatments offered

Sharmila developed a special interest in implants and orthodontics during her time in Merthyr Tydfil, and she has been placing implants since 1998. Since then, Sharmila has gained ample experience and places an average of 100 implants a year.

Sharmila’s large skill base enables her to use a full range of modern orthodontic techniques including fixed, functional, and removable appliances. Sharmila is also able to treat under 18s, but only if they do not qualify for NHS requirements or their parents do not want their child to wait on the NHS waiting list. Sharmila is a Straumann implant provider and is happy to receive referrals for orthodontic and implant treatments.
