Spreading the smile in your workplace

Bupa has conducted a study of 2,000 UK adults to discover the impact of a smile. 65% of people claimed that simply having someone smile at them improved their mood, with this boost lasting for an average of 13 minutes. The positive effects of this simple gesture extend beyond this, as 37% of people said it made them more likely to be kind to others, 19% felt more motivated and 9% were more likely to make a bold decision.

We also discovered the top 30 simple things that make adults smile, many of which can happen in your workplace. For example, receiving a smile or kind gesture from someone, and getting a ‘thank you’ all featured within the top 10 reasons to smile!

However, for some people, feeling self-conscious about their teeth can be a barrier to spreading the smile. In fact, 64% of adults claim their teeth impact their confidence when smiling^.
