I have been a Bupa member since 1996. I have lodged claims several times and am impressed by Bupa’s efficiency and high reimbursement when they settle my claims. When I used the medical card service, I found it was really convenient and did away with the hassle of making pre-payment, so that I could receive timely treatment.

For years our care home has had an outdoor space for residents to spend their free time growing produce on an allotment. We have tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, courgettes, parsley and herbs.

It’s a really satisfying hobby for our residents, and the home’s tomatoes are the most famous in town!

Recently, a member from Korea visited our branch to request a simple cover change. I soon realised that he, like most new Bupa members visiting Australia from overseas, wasn't familiar with our health system or the role of his private insurance. So I arranged to talk things through with him, helping him to feel informed and in control – with a baby on the way this was particularly important to him. He was so delighted he sent the branch a box of cookies.

We were invited to the launch of a book on Alzheimer’s and we decided to invite the relatives of residents with this disease, as many of them need this kind of support to help them understand the disorder. The response was very good and the relatives asked for more activities like that.

When I heard about Aleymi Ramirez from Guatemala, I knew I had to help. She had a congenital defect which urgently required surgery, but it was almost impossible for her family to pay for it.
