E-cards bring a sparkle to GOSH
9 December 2005
With the nation's help, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSHCC) will receive a bumper Christmas present this year. Winging its way on Santa's sleigh will be physical activity monitoring equipment, to help tackle the growing problems of childhood obesity.
For the fifth year running, Bupa has teamed up with UK digital greetings group Ecelebrations, to encourage people to send their festive messages via e-cards to support GOSH.
Physical activity monitoring equipment is needed to help many of the 90,000 children who visit GOSHCC each year. But at £11,000, it's just too steep for Santa, so to start the ball rolling, Bupa has already donated £5,000.
By logging onto www.merrychristmas.co.uk and pledging a minimum £5 donation, users can send up to 50 animated electronic Christmas cards direct from their computer. For every pledge, over half comes directly to GOSHCC and Bupa will give another £1 on their behalf.
Head of web marketing for Bupa, Mark Newson says 'Bupa is committed to improving the health of the nation so it is fitting that we help GOSH, which is such a profoundly valuable asset to the health of families throughout Britain. As children play such an important role at Christmas, it's great to feel that we are making a difference and working with Ecelebrations helps us achieve this.'
Dona Selby, executive director of GOSHCC 'We are immensely grateful to Bupa and Ecelebrations for their continued support and are delighted that this has become an annual tradition. It is crucial for the charity to have loyal supporters at this time of great fundraising need so we urge everyone to take part and help us treat more children even more effectively in the 21st century.'
