Bupa appoints new associate medical director

Leading international health and care company Bupa has appointed Dr Karen Woo to the role of associate medical director, with responsibility for driving elements of the company’s medical strategy and supporting clinical governance across its global operations.
Dr Woo’s clinical experience spans both the UK and international healthcare systems. Prior to joining Bupa, she spent five years working as a general surgeon, most recently at St Mary’s Hospital in London. She has also worked as a surgeon in the Manguzi Hospital in South Africa and while a medical student, worked in hospitals in Australia, Papua New Guinea and Trinidad and Tobago. Furthermore, Dr Woo is currently studying for a Masters in Surgical Education at Imperial College London and is involved with the development of surgical training at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and with Women in Surgical Training.
The first project Dr Woo will undertake at Bupa will be to direct the growth and development of the company’s e-health and telemedicine initiatives, working for example with Bupa’s home healthcare business, Clinovia, to enable the use of mobile phone technology to provide an interactive health information service for patients who suffer from chronic lung disease and breathing problems.
