Consultants vote Bupa number one for medical insurance
31 March 2005
More consultants have private medical cover with Bupa than any other insurer, a survey has shown. And consultants’ secretaries ranked the service they receive from Bupa as the best in the medical insurance industry.
Over half of consultants with medical insurance choose Bupa. One third say they would recommend Bupa to their family and friends, more than would advocate using any other insurer.
The findings were revealed in an annual survey of consultants’ satisfaction with medical insurers, carried out for Bupa by an independent company. Consultants were questioned in nine areas, covering the service they receive and fee levels and in eight of them Bupa was placed either ahead of its competitors or equal highest with them.
The overall satisfaction score among consultants was 70 percent. Areas where Bupa increased its satisfaction levels included the speed and accuracy with which it settles accounts, its efficiency in handling paperwork and the knowledge of its employees.
In a separate survey among consultants’ secretaries Bupa achieved its highest ever satisfaction rating with 75 percent rating the company’s service as "excellent" or "very good." And 83 percent said they would recommend Bupa to others. Over three quarters could not suggest any elements of service that Bupa should adopt from is competitors.
UK Membership director Dr Natalie-Jane Macdonald said: "It’s encouraging that Bupa continues to achieve high scores for the service it offers to consultants and their secretaries who have an important role to play in the patient’s treatment process. We are developing an action plan to identify ways to improve satisfaction further."
Earlier this month Bupa Insurance was judged one of the Sunday Times Top 100 Best Companies to work for. The insurer was rated particularly highly for sharing management information, earning a place in the top 20 of the 100 best companies on this point.
