Bupa announces two senior management appointments
30 July 2008
Bupa has appointed Dr Natalie-Jane Macdonald as managing director of its UK health insurance business.
Her appointment follows changes announced recently by Bupa’s new chief executive, Ray King, in which former UK Membership managing director Fergus Kee became managing director, UK and North America. This followed several significant acquisitions by Bupa in 2007 and the need for a structure designed to reflect the increased size of the Bupa Group.
Natalie-Jane joined BUPA in 1994. She has worked in the company’s insurance business for the past nine years, most recently as medical director of UK Membership and managing director of Bupa Commissioning.
Previously head of ethics and international affairs at the British Medical Association, she obtained her medical degree from Glasgow University, graduating with honours in 1984. She also has an MBA from London Business School.
Bupa UK Membership provides health and travel insurance, income protection and critical illness cover to more than 3 million people including employees working in 80 percent of FTSE 100 companies.
Natalie-Jane reports to Fergus Kee who is responsible for Bupa UK Membership, Clinovia - which provides out-of-hospital care, Health Dialog - a leading US and UK provider of chronic condition management and health coaching services to help patients, Bupa Cromwell Hospital and Bupa Commissioning following Bupa’s appointment in 2007 to the Department of Health’s Framework for Procuring External Support for Commissioners (FESC).
“The combination of Natalie’s experience in both medicine and healthcare will enable her to develop and grow our UK insurance business for the benefit of our customers,” said Fergus.
Further appointments will be announced shortly.
