Bupa International first choice for Ocean Race crew

As eight crews wrestle the waves for this year’s Volvo Ocean Race, the leading global event for yacht racing, only the ‘Delta Lloyd’ crew is sailing safe in the knowledge that their health needs are covered wherever they are in the world, thanks to Bupa International.
The 11-strong team of the Delta Lloyd chose Bupa International because they wanted high quality international healthcare for the nine month, round-the-world event, known as the "Everest of Sailing". With Bupa International, each crew member has access to more than 5,500 participating hospitals worldwide and a 24-hour, 365 days a year multi-lingual helpline, offering up-to-date medical advice, which is vital due to the unpredictable nature of life at sea.
The crew, consisting of team members from the UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Belgium and the U.S.A. are also covered by Bupa when they are onshore, after each leg of the race.

The Ocean Race started on October 11 and spans some 37,000 nautical miles, taking in Cochin, India, Singapore and Qingdao, China before finishing on the 25 June 2009 in St Petersburg, Russia, for the first time in the race’s history.
