28 June 2005
Bupa is to grow its international operations by acquiring AMEDEX Insurance Company and International Health Insurance danmark a/s (IHI) which provide health insurance products to expatriates.
AMEDEX is a US-based insurer that serves Latin America and the Caribbean. It insures over 100,000 people in 42 countries. IHI is a Danish business that provides cover for some 240,000 private and corporate clients in more than 190 countries.
Dean Holden, managing director of Bupa's international businesses said: "Over a third of Bupa's business now comes from its international operations. AMEDEX and IHI have excellent reputations and we believe they will complement our existing expatriate business, Bupa International. They will give us a market leading position in the Latin American market and create a strong platform for further growth for our expatriate health insurance business."
Michael A Carricarte, chairman and CEO, AMEDEX added: "We are delighted to become part of an international health and care group that shares the same values and high levels of service delivery and customer service as us."
Per Bay Jørgensen, chief executive officer, IHI said: "In the past we have respected Bupa's activities worldwide. By joining together, we really will be able to use our combined market strength, knowledge and expertise to create a broader, more successful business."
