Bupa Individual Protection upgrades award winning critical illness plans

25 April 2007

Bupa Individual Protection has announced changes to its award winning critical illness plans effective from 25 April. The revisions offer customers not only the new ABI Statement of Practice minimum standard for critical illness products but additional plan enhancements:

  • 37 conditions covered with 14 additional conditions above the ABI minimum standard, these include insulin dependent diabetes diagnosed over the age of 40, coronary angioplasty, cardiomyopathy and systemic lupus erythematosus
  • family income benefit version of life insurance with critical illness cover
  • reduction in premium if at assessment stage underwriters exclude either cancer or multiple sclerosis from the cover
  • enhanced guaranteed insurability options
  • child cover benefit of 25 percent up to £25,000
  • terms available up to 40 years for guaranteed cover

Steve Casey, product and marketing manager at Bupa Individual Protection commented:”We are pleased to offer enhanced coverage to our members. We are especially pleased by the introduction of a family income benefit style and the reductions we are able to offer members when we have to exclude a certain condition. These developments open the door to consumers who previously thought that critical illness was unavailable to them.

"We have also taken the opportunity to review our prices and have made several revisions. For instance a male non smoker aged 30 next birthday, with cover of £100,000 over 20 years on a guaranteed basis will pay £38.45 per month, a reduction of three percent. On a decreasing term basis, the premium is now £24.61, a reduction of nine percent"
