Bupa continues expansion with two new Care Homes

19 May 2008

Bupa Care Homes’ expansion activity is continuing apace with the development of two new care homes in Southampton and Malvern. The company has secured planning permission to build care homes with specialist dementia care facilities on each site, which are both in the region of one acre, as a part of its multi-million pound drive to improve standards of care for older people in the UK.

In Southampton, Bupa will start work in June on the build of Oak Lodge, on Freemantle Common Road, a 71-bed care home, which will provide much needed care facilities for older people in Southampton with forms of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease. The home will also have a day centre for up to 15 local older people that will be managed and operated by the City Council.

The Malvern site, on Spring Lane, will be a 65-bed care home providing both nursing and residential care for those with dementia. Work will begin on its construction in July, with the home expected to open in early summer 2009.

Lyth Watson, Director of Business Development (UK) for Bupa Care Homes, said: "We are delighted to be developing two new care homes in Southampton and Malvern, which are both areas where we have identified significant local need for more dementia care facilities. As a company, investing in improving standards of care for older people is a top priority and we are always on the look out for suitable sites for new care homes.”

Bupa Care Homes is investing over £11 million in the development of Oak Lodge and The Malvern.
