Max Bupa Health Insurance appoints first chief executive
17 December 2008
Max Bupa Health Insurance Limited today announced the appointment of Dr Damien Marmion as its chief executive officer.
Dr Marmion, will take up his post at the company’s headquarters in New Delhi, India, on 1 January 2009, subject to regulatory approval of his appointment. He was previously development director of Bupa, responsible for the group’s worldwide acquisitions, disposals and market expansion programme.
Max Bupa was established in India earlier this year as a joint-venture between Max India Limited, a leading Indian multi-business corporate and UK-based Bupa Group, the leading international health and care company.
Commenting on his new role, Dr Marmion said: “This is an exciting time to start a new venture in India’s healthcare sector. The country’s growing economy and its young, increasingly-urban population are creating a real opportunity for providers of quality health insurance products.
"Our aim will be to design a range of products that help Indian families benefit from the peace of mind that health insurance can bring."
Welcoming Dr Marmion’s appointment, Mr Analjit Singh, Chairman, Max India Limited and Max Bupa Health Insurance Limited, said: "We are fortunate to have a highly-experienced and proven individual with an extensive background in private medical insurance industry to lead Max Bupa. His experience will be vital in building Max Bupa into one of India’s leading health insurers."
"The new health insurance venture has clear synergies with our existing businesses of ‘life’, such as life insurance, healthcare and clinical research. I am confident of achieving the same standards of service excellence for Max Bupa that all our businesses have come to be known and respected for."
After qualifying and completing his medical training, Dr Marmion initially joined Bupa as clinical services manager of its UK hospitals business. Following that he held a number of senior management posts within the Bupa Group, including Managing Director of Bupa Health Insurance in Hong Kong.
The 42-year-old keen golfer is married and has two children.
