Bupa invests over £1 million to improve personalised care

Facilities for older people in Chester have been given a boost thanks to a £1 million investment by Bupa in Crawfords Walk nursing home in Hoole.
This major expansion project means an increase in capacity and facilities at the home, which now has an extra 17 en-suite bedrooms, seven of which will be dedicated for use by people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Thanks to this investment, Crawfords Walk, already an ‘Excellent’ rated home, is able to offer residents more individualised rooms, decorated in a range of colours and styles to suit differing tastes as well as the option to have a flat-screen television of their own. Further choice and independence has been made possible with two new communal areas and a kitchenette where residents can cater for and entertain their visitors.
Residents at the home, run by Bupa Northern Region’s home manager of the year, Kath Webber, are already able to grow plants to brighten up where they live in their own greenhouse but plans are now afoot to enable them to cultivate herbs and vegetables too – ‘Good Life’ style.
Mrs Webber said: “We’ve been full since we opened 17 years ago and the demand locally for our services is growing. We are proud to be able to expand our home to welcome new residents and to provide an environment which encourages people to maintain their independence for as long as they can while offering the care that they need.”
The development is proving a real hit with residents, families and staff at Crawfords Walk and is part of Bupa’s multi-million pound investment in the UK care homes sector, to help improve the standard of care for older people.
