Bupa Board appoints new Non-Executive Directors

Bupa today announced the appointment of three new Non-Executive Directors to the Board. They are the Rt Hon Baroness (Virginia) Bottomley of Nettlestone, Mr Peter Cawdron and Mr George Mitchell CBE. Both Lady Bottomley and Mr Cawdron are already well known to Bupa as Association Members. All three appointments took effect from 1 May 2007 and were confirmed at Bupa’s AGM today.
The appointments follow the retirement of Mr Greg Clarke at the end of March and the retirement in June of Mr Roy Brown. Both Mr Clarke and Mr Brown have completed their two terms on the Board.
Lady Bottomley, 59, is a former MP and was Secretary of State for Health 1992-95 and National Heritage (now Culture, Media and Sport) 1995-97. She is a Member of the House of Lords, Chair of the Board Practice at Odgers Ray & Berndtson, the recruitment consultancy, a Member of the Supervisory Board of AKZO Nobel NV, President of Farnham Castle, Centre for International Briefing, Chancellor of the University of Hull, a Governor of the London School of Economics, a Trustee of the Economist and President of the Abbeyfield Society.
Peter Cawdron, 63, is Chairman of Punch Taverns plc and GCap Media Plc. He holds various Non-Executive Directorships including the Capita Group plc, Johnston Press Plc and ProStrakan Group plc. He is a former Non-Executive Director of Compass Group Plc and a former Director of Grand Metropolitan plc.
George Mitchell, 57, is Chairman of the Malcolm Group Limited and Revcap, Executive Chairman of the Arkaga Fund and a Non-Executive Director of Intrinsic Financial Services. He is a former Director of HBOS plc and a former Governor of Bank of Scotland plc.
