Bupa appoints new head of client management
12 September 2008
Bupa UK Health Insurance has appointed Damian Lenihan as head of client management, with responsibility for the company’s broad range of health and care services for its direct business customers.
Damian, who joined Bupa in 1993, has more than 15 years’ experience in the healthcare market. He has managed some of Bupa’s largest corporate accounts and was responsible for developing its intermediary trading website, Intercom. Latterly, Damian has spent time building closer partnerships with intermediaries to meet employer needs.
As head of client management, Damian will oversee the continued alignment of Bupa’s private medical insurance, group risk, wellness and occupational health businesses, providing direct business-to-business customers with a single distribution channel. The move to integrate its products and services for corporate clients comes in response to feedback from Bupa’s customers and intermediaries.
Commenting on his new role, Damian said: "The integration of our products and services is designed to help our corporate clients understand the full value and scope of Bupa’s workplace health services rather than focussing on one business area. We look after the health needs of employees in over 80 percent of Britain’s top companies and have the breadth of expertise to help large and small companies to develop the best health package for their workforce."
Ann Greenwood, director of business markets at Bupa UK Health Insurance, said: "Damian brings to his new role a wealth of experience and a track record of success within Bupa."
This year, Bupa has been appointed to the leadership team of Business Action on Health, a UK-wide initiative from Business in the Community (BiTC), promoting the business benefits of investing in employee health. In addition, it is conducting an 18-month research project on workplace health, due for completion in the Summer of 2009, which aims to provide evidence of the benefits of workplace health services to individuals, companies, and the UK economy and health system.
Bupa has also announced a number of initiatives for business customers in recent months including the extension of its network of MRI units by a third, to 352, giving customers access to even more state-of-the art, quality assessed scanners across the UK. The new network - the only one of its kind - also offers better value for money by further reducing the cost of MRI scans by 20 percent.
