Bupa business high-flyers go back to school for art and gardening 'lessons'

8 July 2008

One hundred and eighty business high-flyers from Bupa’s Salford Quays offices are going back to school next week to brush up on their art skills at Sandilands Primary School in Wythenshawe, Manchester.

On 16 July, the team of Bupa volunteers will paint a wildlife mural at the school to address the theme of the year which is the environment and conservation.

To help pupils learn about healthy eating, the team also plans to create two small allotments in the grounds of the school for fruit and vegetables.

The next stop will be the nearby Carrswood Road woods, where the volunteers will also remove litter and lay paths to help make it easier for people to enjoy walks through the area.

To conclude the day, a celebration will be held for the Bupa volunteers including prizes and a raffle to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

The project is part of Bupa’s Community Connections’ initiative designed to support the health and wellbeing needs of local communities in which the company is based.

Kathryn Keery, project leader, said: “It’s particularly satisfying when you can immediately see the benefits to a local community – the school and surrounding areas will look instantly smarter and brighter for everyone to enjoy.

“It’s also a good opportunity for our staff across different departments to work on a joint objective so that we continue to strengthen working relationships.”

Liz Buckley, deputy headteacher of Sandilands Primary School, added: “It’s great to be working together to not only improve the school but also the area around it so that the whole community can share the benefits - it should be a very productive day!”

To find out more about the event please email Kathryn Keery or telephone: 01784 891 545.
