Malvern Council chairman to launch construction of £6 million Bupa care home
4 December 2008
The chairman of Malvern Council, Councillor Sheila Young will carry out a celebratory ground breaking ceremony to officially launch construction of a new Bupa care home, The Springs.
Construction will officially begin on the site when Councillor Sheila Young, lays the first bricks of The Springs Nursing Home. This will be followed by celebratory refreshments to mark the occasion.
Scheduled to welcome its first residents in autumn 2009, the £6 million home has been designed to meet a growing demand in the area for expert dementia nursing and residential services. The Spring’s specialist care will meet the requirements of individuals with dementia whilst helping them to maintain their independence.
Set on an acre of land near Malvern town centre, The Springs will feature 65 en-suite bedrooms, along with modern, communal dining and living areas. The home’s features have been designed to aid residents’ recollection. A range of ‘memory triggers’ will be fitted to stimulate residents’ memories. Contrasting colours will help stimulate and relax residents and guide them around the home, while ‘memory boxes’ will be fitted outside each bedroom to be filled with residents’ personal items such as photographs, certificates and trinkets that may help them reminisce.
Chairman of Malvern Council, Councilor Sheila Young commented: "Future residents and their relatives will be reassured to know that they will be cared for in such an exciting environment. Congratulations Bupa, I hope all goes well."
The new home is part of Bupa’s multi-million pound drive to improve standards of care for older people within the UK. This year alone Bupa Care Services has invested around £70 million in new buildings, extensions and refurbishments, a large percentage of this being spent on improving the standards of specialist dementia care.
Tim Seal, Regional Director for Bupa care homes, said: "The number of people in the UK with dementia is rapidly rising and we have identified a significant local need for dementia care for older people in the Malvern area. We are pleased that the construction of The Springs will allow this requirement to be met.
"I’d like to thank the Chairman of Malvern Council for helping us to mark the official start to the construction of The Springs."
